Website owners may be able to hack their way to a nice-looking website but if it’s not built properly, they open themselves up for major headaches down the road. There are many aspects other than design to consider and plan for when developing a WordPress website. Before and after the “fun” stuff is in place, I make sure the “boring” stuff (organization, security, optimization, etc.) is taken care of properly so your site isn’t a ticking bomb waiting to explode.
Finally, in addition to a quality core, I place a huge emphasis on user experience. If your users have a hard time using or navigating your website, you can bank on them leaving and not coming back. I spend considerable time testing all areas of the site to ensure everything flows smoothly and as a user would expect. Sure, a nice design is awesome but a successful website will function properly first and foremost.
Before Requesting a Quote
If you have the next best website idea and you believe it is destined for overnight greatness, that’s awesome. I’d love to discuss it with you but I can’t develop it for $200, a percentage of potential future profits, or anything other than what I quote. Just like any other service provider (i.e. lawyer, physician, accountant, etc.), I have bills to pay and must charge for the time it takes me to complete a service, which is exactly what website development is. If you are price shopping or looking for the cheapest deal, you will be better suited to look elsewhere. Website development is a skill that requires countless of hours to learn and constant practice and continuing-ed to remain proficient. While you can find cheap “developers”, it is highly unlikely that they are experts and it’s even less likely that they are well-known for what they do. Also, each developer has different costs and price factors so my quote will likely be different, but not necessarily higher, than what you received elsewhere.
